CHAMBER CHOOSES CITIZEN, BUSINESSES TO RECEIVE AWARDS
Four recognition awards were presented Friday, Feb. 19, by the Greater St. Anthony Chamber of Commerce at it annual awards dinner and dance.
Immediate past president Sherri Thomas Jackson was honored as Citizen of the Year for her six years of service as president. “Sherri has worked tirelessly and unselfishly for the chamber. She was appointed to the job in the middle of a term and picked up the reins without question,” said Cathy Koon, who succeeds Jackson as president.
The New Business of the Year award goes to Excellence in Everyone and its sister owners, Heather and Lori. The two women opened the business to serve the handicapped and developmentally disabled in the community, and they provide an essential service to their many clients, Koon said. They joined the chamber and have been active in community activities.
Upper Valley Community Health Services is the Chamber’s Business of the Year. The medical and dental clinic has been open nearly three years thanks to a federal grant that allows UVCHS to charge patients according to their ability to pay. The clinic is open to everyone, whether or not they have insurance, Koon said.
The Agri-Business of the Year is North Fork Nursery, owned by Scott Valcarce and his family. The chamber recognizes the hard work of the Valcarces to fill a niche in the community. The quality of their product is evidenced by the flowers they provide yearly for the city flower beds. North Fork also participated in the first year of the Henry’s Fork Farmer and Crafter Market.
The awards were presented at the Chamber’s dinner and dance Feb. 19 at the South Fremont Junior High. Theme for the evening was “Baby, it’s cold outside.” A meet-and-greet social hour begins at 6 p.m., the buffet dinner was catered by the Silver Horseshoe.
